Our Gallery Residency in July & August will host Sophie
Erin Cooper. Sophie's residency will culminate in an exhibition within the BAS Gallery.
'Drawing Breath'
Sophie makes drawings of ephemeral and fleeting objects and moments, working both on paper and as installations.
'Through drawing, Sophie explores expressive and intricate marks. She is drawn to the dream-like and curious to create works that achieve this aesthetic. She often twists natural forms into something ethereal, playing with fragmentation and emphasising their fragility. Sophie works mostly in graphite, fine line pens and watercolour, working both on paper and applying drawing directly to the space. For the residency Sophie is interested in the interaction between her mark making and different materials. She will continue to pursue a variety of outcomes for the work, the space allowing for experimentation with large installations.'
